What Would Meatloaf Not Do for Love?

My friends and I have been trying to figure out what, precisely, Meatloaf is talking about in the song, I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That). I confess, I don't know the words that well. But I'm not sure it helps. Everyone still has a different idea about what the that is.

Blog world, have you any answers?

Funny--I heard this song in the car a few weeks ago and sang along to it--the whole time wondering what the that is. I believe it comes in at the very end of the song. The woman says something about how he'll forget everything and end up leaving and he replies that he won't do that.

I always assumed it was a reference to investing in collateralized debt obligations. Isn't it rather obvious, when you listen carefully?

Does anybody ever want a simply factual answer to a question like this? Of course not but here Is the boring answer anyway:
1) "I'll never forget the way you feel right now"
2) "I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight"
3) "I'll never do it better than I do it with you, so long, so long"
4) "I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way"
5) [Girl:] "After a while you'll forget everything" "And you'll see that it's time to move on" [Boy:] "I won't do that!"
6) [Girl:] "sooner or later, you'll be screwing around" [Boy:] "I won't do that!"
Those are the things he won’t do.
Just for the purpose of context here is what he will do…
And I would do anything for love, I'd run right into hell and back
I would do anything for love, I'll never lie to you and that's a fact…
(ie: he is being honest)

Maybe I'm crazy, but it's crazy and it's true
I know you can save me, no one else can save me now but you

As long as the planets are turning, as long as the stars are burning
As long as your dreams are coming true, you better believe it

That I would do anything for love, and I'll be there ‘till the final act
I would do anything for love, and I'll take a vow and seal a pact…

As long as the wheels are turning, as long as the fires are burning
As long as your prayers are coming true, you better believe it

That I would do anything for love, and you know it's true and that's a fact
I would do anything for love, and there'll never be no turning back

I agree with anonymous that the plain answer is that he solemnly pledges not to engage in promiscuous unprotected sex with groupies while the relationship remains constant. Very romantic.

Anonymous, I DO appreciate the answer. In fact, this post and your answer have inspired me to spend some of my iTunes Christmas gift card money on Meat Loaf tracks. Holly, you should really be getting a cut of the sale!
